The Church of the First Born of the Lamb of God

Tommy the Hamburger is here again, and I am about to fucking tear the mask off another cult, another god soaked machine for stealing money, bodies, time, and willpower. You came here for the ugly truth, so here it is. Here you will learn about something monumentally crazy, and about the people dumb enough to fall for such bullshit. Today we are down in the bloody scrubland where Mormon fundamentalist succession fights stopped being just theology and turned into murder paperwork. I am talking about Ervil LeBaron and the Church of the First Born of the Lamb of God, which sounds like a cracked Bible page but functioned more like a family cartel with scripture stapled to the gun orders. If you know only the broad strokes, you probably know the beard, the wives, the desert compounds, maybe the word polygamy, maybe the phrase blood atonement if some internet ghoul threw it around without knowing what the hell he was saying. What you need to know is simpler and uglier. Ervil built a cult by taking an already splintered fundamentalist world, promising cosmic legitimacy, and then converting religious rivalry into an internal kill doctrine. That is the whole rotten machine. Authority, secrecy, property control, sexual control, family capture, then murder dressed up as sacred duty. The LeBarons came out of the post Manifesto Mormon fundamentalist diaspora, which means the soil was already primed for some wild eyed bastard to claim that the mainstream church had sold out and the true priesthood needed to hide out in Mexico and keep the old order alive. Colonias in Chihuahua had that exact mood: distance from state scrutiny, family dynasties, scripture heavy patriarchy, and a constant supply of people who already believed mainstream Mormon leadership had betrayed the real thing. That matters. Cults rarely start from nothing. They grow out of cracked institutions, wounded pride, old doctrine, and people who already want to believe they are the chosen leftovers after the weak got washed away. Joel LeBaron had his own authority claims first. Then Ervil decided Joel was no longer enough. That is another boringly common cult move. The first prophet gets the room built. The second one, usually meaner and dumber, decides he has to intensify everything to prove he is the real vessel. Ervil did not just want followers. He wanted absolute submission, and he wanted the kind that feels holy when you are inside it and homicidal when you step back. He started pushing the old Mormon blood atonement language as if it were a live operational policy. Not a sermon relic. Not a historical embarrassment. A current instruction. If you were an enemy, a dissenter, a rival claimant, a defector, or just somebody he wanted erased, he could frame your removal as obedience to God. Fuck me sideways, that is cult gold right there. It gives the leader moral cover, gives the follower ecstatic purpose, and turns murder into a sacrament. His group was not large because size is not the point. People get too mesmerized by body counts and membership totals and miss what actually makes a cult dangerous. A hundred obedient people arranged around one paranoid prophet can do catastrophic damage if the structure is tight enough. Ervil concentrated power through kinship, wives, children, apostles, handpicked enforcers, and sealed revelation. He mixed family loyalty with divine rank so completely that leaving him was not just leaving a church. It was betraying blood, heaven, destiny, and in many cases the only social world you had left. That is how these sons of bitches keep hold of people. They do not give you a belief system alone. They give you a total environment and then threaten you with annihilation if you walk. Money moved the same way it always does in cults, only with more dust on it. Property was surrendered or redirected. Labor was treated as sacred contribution. Businesses and side hustles helped keep the machine alive. Members worked, Ervil interpreted, and the cash and control flowed upward. The holy language around sacrifice and consecration did the same labor as any modern lifestyle cult's talk about service, mission, purpose, or alignment. Different costume, same theft. When a leader tells you your money is no longer really your money because God wants unified stewardship, get your fucking shoes on and run. That is not spirituality. That is asset capture with a hymnbook. Then there was sex, marriage, and family command, because no cult tyrant ever seems content just owning the prayer schedule. Ervil imposed polygamous pairings, reordered households, claimed women, dictated access, and used marriage as a loyalty mechanism. That is not some side issue. It is central. Control over sex and family is where cults prove they are serious. Anyone can gather believers for sermons. The real test of dominion is whether the leader can decide who touches whom, who belongs to whom, who breeds, who waits, and who is told to swallow humiliation because eternity supposedly depends on it. Once people accept that, the rest of the chain gets easier to tighten. Children in these systems do not grow up in a normal moral universe either. They are born into a room where dad is not just dad, mothers are arranged by a prophet, fear is doctrinal, and enemies are not merely mistaken but damned. That means the cult is not just managing present loyalty. It is manufacturing future obedience. Kids absorb the atmosphere before they can parse the theology. They learn that authority is male, sacred, and dangerous. They learn that secrecy is righteousness. They learn that violence can be virtuous if the right holy bastard labels it justice. By the time the outside world gets a look, the damage is already packed into their bones. The doctrinal turn into violence is what made Ervil's operation especially filthy. Rival fundamentalist leaders did not just disagree with him. He marked them as targets. Joel LeBaron was murdered in 1972. Rulon Allred was murdered in 1977. Those were not random explosions of frontier passion. They were the logical end of a system in which the leader framed killing as covenant maintenance. Once blood atonement becomes live policy, the only question is logistics. Who will do it, how cleanly, and how much scripture must be read around it to keep the killers feeling pure. The women pulled into the murders matter here too, because lazy cult narratives love pretending only men commit the hard violence while women just float around as passive scenery. Not so. Rena Chynoweth and others ended up enmeshed in the enforcement arm because cult systems recruit everybody into the structure according to available leverage. Women can be victims, witnesses, accomplices, couriers, defenders, recruiters, and executioners all at once inside a strong enough coercive world. That is what makes these groups such a bitch to understand if you insist on a clean moral cartoon. The cult first strips people down, then rebuilds them into tools, then tells them the tool use was their own holy choice. And Ervil wrote. Of course he fucking wrote. Cult leaders love paper when the paper says they are king. He produced revelation texts, dictated commandments, and built out the Book of the New Covenants as both scripture and operational guide. That is another pattern worth paying attention to. The weirder and more unstable the leader becomes, the more he tends to externalize himself into documents, tapes, diagrams, lists, letters, manuals. He wants his mania to survive the limits of his body. He wants every whim to harden into law. He wants followers arguing over whose copy is most authentic while he sits on top of the pile smiling like a holy spider. Ervil's writings did exactly that. They codified his paranoia. They made personal vendetta portable. They let him keep governing even while locked up. That part should chill you properly. Prison did not kill the cult. His body got caged, but his authority had already been serialized. Lists kept circulating. enemies remained marked. His followers still treated the texts like binding revelation. That is how you know you are not just looking at one charismatic madman having a bad season. You are looking at a durable control system. If the leader can continue directing violence through paper, memory, kinship, and ritual after the state grabs him, the state is already late to the party. The Four O'Clock Murders in 1988 hammered that point home. Multiple coordinated killings tied to Ervil's old commands showed the machine had not died with his incarceration or even with his death. It had become hereditary and scriptural. Relatives, loyalists, damaged children, and surviving believers were still living inside a universe where old names on old kill lists carried divine force. That is one of the dirtiest parts of this story. The cult did not end neatly. It rotted forward through bloodlines, grudges, leftover texts, and those little family mythologies that keep evil alive by calling it loyalty. You also cannot flatten this whole thing into "crazy polygamists in Mexico," because that is stupid and lazy and lets the actual mechanism vanish. The real mechanism was splinter authority plus apocalyptic certainty plus enclosure plus female and child subordination plus economic capture plus sacred violence. That formula travels. You can swap out the Mormon fundamentalist shell for new age ascension talk, militia Christianity, black nationalist messianism, therapy jargon, startup leadership coaching, or vegan purity bullshit and still find the same core pieces if the leader is ambitious enough. Once a group says the ordinary moral order no longer applies because revelation has outranked it, get your hand off the doorknob and kick the fucking door down on your way out. What makes Ervil particularly important is that he fused prophetic succession crisis with organized crime logic. He did not just threaten divine punishment after death. He used hit lists, enforcers, money channels, safe houses, and family cells. That means this is not a quaint religious oddity from a forgotten desert corner. It is a live study in how cult ideology and criminal method reinforce each other. Sacred rank helps crime because followers stop asking ordinary questions. Crime helps sacred rank because violence scares off defectors and proves the leader means business. The two systems make each other stronger until somebody ends up dead in a clinic, an office, or a car. There is also a modern lesson in how respectable outsiders kept underreading the danger. People hear "fundamentalist sect" and think eccentric doctrine. They hear "family dispute" and think private weirdness. They hear "rural religious colony" and picture homemade bread and old pickup trucks. Meanwhile the real machinery is asset control, sexual coercion, fear discipline, child conditioning, and murder theology. Same thing happens now when people shrug off abusive high control groups because they look too small, too marginal, too ridiculous, or too socially awkward to matter. Bullshit. Ridiculous people kill all the time. Embarrassing doctrines can still produce corpses. Half the battle is getting over the childish idea that only slick groups are dangerous. And yes, this one still has an afterlife. Surviving fragments, relatives, and ideological descendants do not always preserve the full original structure, but the template lingers. You can still see pieces of it in violent sectarian splinters, family run prophet operations, and every sacred little empire where the leader treats dissent as treason against God. The details change. The handwriting gets cleaner. The websites get nicer. The old mimeograph turns into PDFs and Telegram channels. But the same poison sits underneath: revelation above accountability, family under command, women as movable property, money as consecrated extraction, and enemies marked for righteous ruin. So file this one where it belongs. Not as folklore, not as dusty Mormon side trivia, not as some strange desert novella for history perverts. File it as a hard, documented example of what happens when theological succession fights get married to patriarchal domination and operational violence. Ervil LeBaron did not build a church in any meaningful moral sense. He built a kill authorizing family cult that laundered murder through revelation. The doctrine was not the point. The doctrine was the fucking weapon. That is the cult filed and shelved. You should feel a little dirtier now. I know I sure do. See you in the next descent into madness.
