The Loop · Episode 30
Conspiracy Resurrection
1,852 words
Tommy The Hamburger is in The Loop. This is the part where the trap already knows your fucking name. The hour, the smell, the excuse, the reach for the same poison. The same shit, the same job, the same fight, the same goddamn turn back into the motherfucking grinder. Listen closely while I crack open the cycle, show you where it hooks right the fuck in, what it takes, and why people keep feeding the system, even when they know exactly how it ends.
The trigger usually arrives after dark. You are tired enough to be stupid and restless enough to keep scrolling. The room is dim except for the phone glow. The sink has one dirty glass in it. The radiator clicks. Your brain feels like wet wiring. Then some bastard posts a clip with dramatic music and a sentence in all caps about what they do not want you to know. Secret footage. Hidden documents. Then some breathless line about suppressed truth. The algorithm always knows the exact hour your bullshit defenses are weakest.
You tap it because maybe this one explains everything. That is how the hook goes in. Not through genius. Through exhaustion and loneliness, through the cheap animal relief of thinking chaos might secretly have a plan behind it. The clip tells you the election was stolen, or the moon landing was staged, or the fires were set on purpose, or the storm was engineered, or the cure is poison, or the virus was fake until it was made in a lab until it was deployed by billionaires until it was punishment from God. The details barely matter. The structure is the same every fucking time. There is always a hidden hand and a cover up, plus a chosen little club that sees it clearly.
And suddenly your day makes sense in a sick little way. Rent is up. Groceries are filthy expensive. Your job still sucks. Politicians still lie. Rich people still get richer with their clean little haircut faces on television. The system obviously stinks. So when a conspiracy shows up and says all this confusion is not confusion at all, it is a secret map, your body responds before your brain does. First comes relief. Logic drags in later, if it shows up at all.
Then comes the routine. You watch the first clip. A second one loads. Then a longer one with subtitles and red circles on freeze frames. Then comments. Then links. Then the guy in a truck hat saying he used to believe the official story too. Then the woman whispering into a microphone about evidence she cannot show because it is too dangerous. Then the old blurry photo and the screenshot from a post nobody can source. Then the phrase do your own research, which almost always means let the next stranger lie to you harder.
By the time the clock says one in the morning, you are not looking for truth anymore. You are looking for pattern. Every loose screw in the world starts looking like it belongs to the same machine. News headline. Proof. Rich man smirking. Proof. Contradiction. Proof. Absence of evidence. Bigger proof. The loop is beautiful that way, if you are dumb enough to admire it. It can swallow anything. If facts agree, that means you were right. If facts disagree, that means the cover up is even deeper. It is a self licking knife.
The bodily cost sneaks in like mold. Your sleep goes to shit because your head is full of coded messages, poisoned medicine, fake ballots, satellites, tunnels, actors, crisis plants, all the rotten little toys the loop keeps in its pocket. Your chest gets tight. Your shoulders stay high. Your jaw clamps down until your teeth feel powdered. You start every morning already pissed off, like somebody whispered an insult into your ear during the night and then vanished.
That poison leaks into conversation fast. At lunch you bring up what you saw. Maybe lightly at first. You are just asking questions, just wondering why it all feels weird. Somebody rolls their eyes. Somebody tells you that sounds fake as hell. Somebody else leans in, though. That is all the loop needs. One believer, or half a believer, or one curious idiot willing to entertain the smell for a minute. Now the thing has company. Now the lie has a room to breed in.
And fuck me sideways, that is the part people underestimate. The conspiracy does not survive because it is convincing. It survives because it feels intimate. You and me against the blind herd. Me and Uncle Bob in the garage after the cookout. Me and the night shift guy behind the loading dock. Me and the woman in the comments who says she knew she was not crazy. It gives people belonging with their paranoia, and that combo is mean as shit.
Soon the false hope arrives, because every loop has to sell relief if it wants to keep its hooks in. In this one the relief is revelation. You tell yourself once enough people wake up, the whole rotten stage set will collapse. The guilty will be dragged out. The truth will finally thunder through the room and every smug liar in a suit will choke on it. It is fantasy, but it is useful fantasy. It turns confusion into mission and fear into purpose. It lets people feel heroic while sitting in a recliner with chip dust on their shirt.
Meanwhile, real life starts to rot around the edges. You stop trusting doctors, teachers, reporters, elections, neighbors, weather alerts, school notices, maybe your own sister if she laughs at the wrong video. Every institution becomes suspect. Every contradiction becomes a clue. You cannot just be uninformed anymore. You have to be under attack. The loop needs that. If ordinary uncertainty were allowed back in the room, the whole act would wobble.
Then somebody debunks the current lie. Hard and public. The documents are fake. The footage is old. The picture was edited. The source made it up. The witness sold supplements. The whistleblower is just a dipshit with a ring light and a cash link. For a minute the conspiracy should die. It should fold right there on the floor and stink itself out of existence.
It never does.
Instead the reset begins. The believers say the debunk proves how scared the powerful are. They say the fact checkers are in on it. They say the source got silenced. They say the old claim was planted to distract from the real claim. They say the timeline changed. They say the truth is still coming. Same lie, new haircut. Same corpse, fresh makeup. Same stupid son of a bitch crawling out of the grave again because enough people cannot bear to admit they got played.
That is why the resurrection part matters. The loop is not just lie to believer to debunk to end. No. It is lie to believer to debunk to mutation to lie again. The dead thing comes back with different words and the same smell. You saw it with vaccines. You saw it with elections. You saw it with every big disaster and every scandal they could stuff into the grinder. The moment the facts get firm, the loop molts.
And the machine feeding it never sleeps. Video platforms want watch time. Comment sections want blood. Influencers want terrified little audiences they can milk for clicks, donations, merch, and ad reads. Politicians want a crowd too angry to think straight. Grifters want the softest brains in the room. The loop is not just personal weakness. It is an industry. A panic mill with a share button.
The emotional cost is uglier than the intellectual one. You lose your ability to be bored by uncertainty. That sounds small, but it is huge. A sane person can live with not knowing everything. A brain caught in this loop cannot. It treats unanswered questions like open wounds. So it fills them with poison. It prefers a sinister fantasy over an ordinary blank space. That is how people go from maybe something is weird here to my cousin is a government plant in under six months.
And once that habit sets in, ordinary life starts looking staged. A weather warning sounds scripted. A school lockdown alert looks suspicious. A dead microphone in a press conference becomes evidence. Somebody stumbling over a sentence on local news becomes proof of coaching. Your own eyes stop being your own eyes. They become little factory tools for manufacturing confirmation on demand.
Relationships get hit next. Dinner gets weird. Holidays get weird, then the group texts turn septic. Someone sends a clip. Someone else says that is fake. Somebody storms out. Somebody laughs too hard. Somebody starts keeping a folder on their phone labeled receipts. A brother stops speaking to a brother. A daughter stops visiting. A marriage turns into one long hostage negotiation with a news feed. The loop never pays those bills. It just keeps charging.
And every once in a while a believer gets tired enough to see the trick. It usually happens at some ugly little hour. Three in the morning. Eyes burning. Phone warm in the hand. Tabs open everywhere. Heart kicking too hard for a man just sitting in a chair. Maybe the realization comes like shame. Maybe it comes like grief. You look around and notice your life is smaller than it was before the hunt began. Trust is down and sleep is worse. Laughter barely shows up. More certainty, sure, but certainty is cheap when it has eaten everything else.
For a minute you almost step out. You almost delete the apps. You almost admit the world is ugly enough without adding secret reptiles and coded storms and fake moon dust to the pile. You almost remember that powerful people commit real crimes in broad daylight and do not need laser eyed fantasy plots to be dangerous. You almost catch the click.
Then the phone lights up again.
New leak. New evidence. New thread. New whistleblower. Then an interview. Then a post from an account you forgot you followed. The same old promise in a different coat. This changes everything. It never changes a damn thing, but it says it will, and right when your brain wants one more hit of pattern, one more excuse to keep the fear moving, that promise sounds sweet.
So you tap. Of course you tap. The room is dark. The radiator clicks. The dirty glass is still in the sink. The world is still crooked and expensive and mean, and the lie is right there offering a shape to all of it. Same screen. Same pulse spike. Then that same stupid hope creeps back in, telling you this time the hidden map will finally open up and spare you the humiliation of not knowing.
That's the Loop. You don't beat it by naming it once. You beat it by catching the click before the next turn, but most poor motherfuckers never do. The trigger is already warming up.
