Therapy Transcript Drop

2,091 words

Get ready, Tommy the Hamburger is about to twist your motherfucking brain. You're going to get two choices, and an examination of the fucking thought process behind both. Shit's about to get detailed and complicated, so you better pay attention. All right. Here is the motherfucking dilemma. Would you rather publish every raw therapy session as a book for the whole world to read, or skip therapy and let your worst enemies write your daily positive affirmations until their poison starts living in your mouth? We start in a publishing office that smells like lamp heat, coffee gone stale, and paper dust baked into the carpet. A stack of printed transcripts sits on the table beside a marker, a legal pad, and a bottle of water nobody has touched because even the room knows this is not hydration territory. My therapy couch has been recreated in the corner for promo shots. There is a camera pointed at it. A young editor keeps smoothing the top page of the transcript stack like she is petting a dangerous animal and hoping it learned manners. That alone makes my skin crawl. The book option looks noble for one ugly second. That is the trap. Somebody starts talking about honesty and courage and how maybe your pain can help people. All of those words come out clean enough to pass in daylight, which is exactly why they are dangerous. They make extraction sound like service. They take a private room where I was trying to stop my head from chewing through itself and they ask whether it might have a stronger opening if we begin with the night I broke down hardest. Fuck me sideways, there is no uglier magic trick than turning a confession into a product and then acting grateful for the opportunity. The body cost lands fast on this side because I would have to reread myself in my worst shape. Not some polished memory. Not some later version where I already know what I survived. The raw transcripts come back first, along with the stammering and the desperate little loops and those embarrassing places where I kept saying the same wounded thing because I had not found a better bone to gnaw yet. Every line I said under the assumption that the door stayed shut would now be sitting on paper with page numbers under it. Once that happens the body stops relaxing around truth. It starts treating truth like a witness stand. And it only gets worse after the book leaves the room. A private wound can still breathe while it belongs to the moment that made it. Print kills that motion. Print freezes the mess. Suddenly the worst hour of your life becomes chapter material for strangers with bookmarks and weekend free time. Some asshole underlines the sentence where you sounded the most broken and calls it beautiful. A podcast host quotes your panic back to you with a soft little voice meant to sound respectful. A reviewer writes that your collapse felt universal. Universal my ass. It was mine. They do not get to run their fingers over it and call that understanding. That is the social cost and it is filthy because it looks polite. Family starts reading to see whether they are in there. Old friends start reading to see what blame you assigned. Enemies start reading because a hardcover is just gossip wearing shoes. Even the people who mean well turn rotten in a quieter way. They start approaching you with this fake tenderness that only exists because they bought access to your damage. They think knowing the transcript means knowing you. It does not. It means they bought a ticket to the room where you leaked. There is false hope built into it, and I can feel how strong that hope would be. Maybe if I publish first then nobody gets to weaponize rumor later. Maybe if I put the ugliest things on the table myself, I control the shape of them. Maybe I even get paid enough to call the humiliation efficient. That is a nasty temptation. Control is sexy when you are scared. Money helps make bad ideas look organized. But the control is fake. The minute the pages leave your hands, interpretation starts breeding in other people's mouths. Now your breakdown belongs to every idiot with a reading lamp and an opinion. The really evil part is how respectable the whole machine looks. Nobody has to sneer. They can compliment the candor while cashing the blood. They can talk about testimony and healing while your most private moments get sorted by chapter title and quote card. There is no need for open cruelty because the industry already knows a softer voice gets the knife deeper. You are not being dragged through the street. You are being curated. That is worse. A public beating tells the truth about itself. A tasteful release party for your private misery lies right to your face. Then the long term damage shows up. Once those sessions are out there, they do not die. Sooner or later somebody finds them again and decides they know which weak spot to press when the room gets mean. A book is permanent in a way a bad morning is not. That permanence is what makes this side poisonous. It does not just hurt once. It keeps offering your old pain to new strangers like samples on a tray. Now swing over to Enemy Affirmations and watch the ugliness come in without a cardigan. This room is brighter and nastier, but at least it is honest about the stink on it. There is a gold frame around a mirror and a ring light nearby. A monitor on the wall counts down to the daily read. I still have to stand up straight and say the affirmations out loud, but they are written by people who hate my guts. Ex friends and old rivals, the kind of grinning poison merchants who know exactly where the bruise lives because they helped make it. Every morning one of their little affirmations lands in my inbox, polished just enough to pass as support until I say it aloud and hear the venom bloom inside the wording. That is immediate body damage. Heat climbs into my face and the jaw locks before the first sentence is finished because I know I am about to put hostile language through my own mouth. There is something especially degrading about reading poison in a cheerful tone. The whole setup wants that split second where I almost stumble because the line is too sharp, then recover just enough to make the audience lean in. It is not trying to help me. It is trying to see whether contempt can be smuggled past the teeth and into the bloodstream by dressing it in nice little words. And those words can be vicious. Not cartoon villain vicious. Better than that. Mean in the way only somebody who studied your weak spots can be mean. You are resilient, Tommy. You always recover from the little disasters you create. Your heart is so big it almost makes up for your judgment. Imagine having to say that with a straight face while the room waits to see if your eye twitches. That is not affirmation. That is a taunt with lotion on it. Still, this side has one brutal advantage. The enemy stays visible. I know the hand behind the line. I know the malice is real because the whole arrangement admits it. Nobody has to pretend it is healing. Nobody has to tell me the exploitation is brave literature. This machine walks in filthy and says yes, your enemies are writing fake sunshine and forcing you to swallow it on camera. That honesty matters more than it should. A trap with its teeth showing is still a trap, but at least I do not have to insult myself by calling it medicine. The false hope here is resistance. Maybe if I hear sabotage often enough it loses its charge. Maybe if the poison arrives daily I will build a hide thick enough to shrug it off. That sounds cute in theory. In the body it is messier. Repetition does work. Tone does seep in. Even when I know the line is crooked, I still have to say it. Rhythm matters. Language sticks. Hostility repeated often enough can leave fingerprints on the inside of your skull. So no, this is not some heroic inoculation fantasy. This thing bruises. It bruises daily. But the bruise stays alive, and that matters. I can answer the voice and spit after the line, then mutter you smug bastard under my breath while knowing exactly who I am fighting. With the transcript book there is no fight left. The page just sits there cool and permanent while strangers build their own uses for it. Enemy Affirmations hurt in real time, but the hurt is still attached to a living exchange. The book would turn pain into furniture. The social cost on the enemy side is also disgusting, just in a more honest costume. People start ranking which enemy wrote the best disguised insult. The audience clips my face when one lands hard and votes on whose sabotage was the most elegant. It becomes a bloodsport around craftsmanship, which is vile, but at least no one gets to pretend this is a healing memoir. They know they are here for cruelty. I know they are here for cruelty. The ugliness stays above ground. Then the whole machine tightens, because of course it does. The enemies start quoting lines from my real life back at me. They build their fake affirmations out of things they know I am ashamed of and memories I thought had already scabbed over. One line jabs at failure. Another puts sugar over an old humiliation until the sweetness itself makes me sick. They coordinate. They get cute. They workshop the poison. I hate that. I hate how good some of them would be at it. But even then, I can still hear the sneer behind the sentence and know the truth of what is happening. That is what decides the whole damn thing. Therapy Transcript Drop steals the interior and preserves it for resale. Enemy Affirmations jab me in the ribs every morning, but the interior stays in my body. One option commodifies the private room forever. The other option stages an ongoing ambush that still dies with the day once the words are said and the spit dries. Both are humiliating. Both are coercive. Only one of them builds a permanent public object out of moments that were supposed to stay in motion. So I pressure test the bottom of the trap. If I choose the book, there is no taking it back. The pathetic line stays pathetic in print. The raw confession stays searchable. The ugliest hour of my life becomes a thing other people can shelve, gift, quote, and misunderstand for years. If I choose Enemy Affirmations, I still get cut, but the cut is live. It hurts and then it passes into history where it belongs. There is no deluxe edition of my worst morning sitting on a coffee table next to somebody's decorative candle. I choose Enemy Affirmations. I choose the live knife over the embalmed one. I choose the trap that tells the truth about its malice instead of laundering exploitation through paper, blurbs, and fake concern. Therapy Transcript Drop is worse because it would turn every raw session into reusable content for motherfuckers who call extraction honesty. It would make me spend years meeting strangers who think they know me because they bought the chapter where I bled the hardest. No. If somebody is going to jab at my weak spots, I would rather hear it in real time and answer back while I am still standing. The losing side can keep its royalties and its polished interviews. It can keep the tasteful dust jacket and the little compliments about bravery. That route is a coffin made of paper and fake concern, with my private voice nailed to the inside lid. Enemy Affirmations are cruel, invasive, and warped, but they do not pretend to be sacred. They stay what they are. The transcript book would smile while it hollowed me out and then ask whether I felt grateful for the exposure. That's the fucking verdict. I made the call, and if your brain still works, you know where this lands.
